In Budget 2017, the Government announced a new vision for Canada to become global leader in innovation. As a part of the Innovation and Skills Plan, industry-lead Economic Strategy Tables were tasked with developing sector-specific roadmaps to help support innovation. The Economic Strategy Table for the Health/Biosciences Sector set out an ambitious goal for Canada to double the size of the sector by 2025 and become a top-three global hub by leveraging and advancing innovative technologies; attracting and retaining capital, skills, and talent; and ensuring a vibrant ecosystem that will unleash the full potential of the sector and lead to improved health outcomes. This bold vision is supported by more than just good intentions. The panelists in this keynote session will share their experiences collaborating using this new model for government-industry engagement and outline the specific, measurable actions that were recommended to achieve this vision for transformative growth.
Learning Objective :
At the conclusion of this session, participants should be able to:
- Gain information on how the Economic Strategy Table developed their vision
- Identify specific recommendations for action to overcome barriers
- Understand how industry and government will take steps to implement the recommendations and continue to strengthen innovation, competitiveness in our sector and improve health outcomes for Canadians
