Nanomedines are used in a variety of ways, both for drug delivery purposes and as tools for medical applications such as imaging and tissue engineering. Especially the benefit of nanomedicines in drug delivery has been proven as they confer unique pharmacokinetic and therapeutic effects such as improved dissolution rate and oral bioavailability, targeted delivery, improved efficacy, and decreased toxicity. As the control of materials in the nanometer size range requires scientifically demanding chemistry, analysis and manufacturing techniques special capacities are required to enable the clinical development of nanomedicines as versatile units. Since clinical development requires different capacities, it is extremely important to have access to a linked, multidisciplinary technology portfolio. In this session we would like to share experiences about which competencies are required and how capacities can be optimally used to allow nanomedicines to advance in clinical development.
