The UK’s research response to COVID-19 was unparalleled. It triggered a system-wide response which took the UK’s collaborative culture to new levels. This multi-agency approach enabled unprecedented speed and efficiency in trial approvals, set-up and recruitment. By eliminating delays and duplication, and by optimising all available research resources in our NHS, the UK was able to answer questions of global importance about COVID-19 treatment and management. In this session you will; Learn how a national approach to prioritisation of research was achieved; Discover how the existing national research infrastructure was hyper-charged overnight to rapidly conduct priority research; Understand how a SMART approach maximised opportunities to find robust, scientific evidence in the most efficient way; Analyse lessons that have been learned and how they will shape the future of research in the UK.
