Objectives

The objective of this abstract is to investigate the factors influencing the mental health of COVID-19-recovered patients in Macau and identify potential target populations for timely psychological intervention.

Method

The study was conducted in Macau using a cross-sectional survey method with 426 participants. An online questionnaire was used to assess the mental health status of COVID-19-recovered patients, with the questionnaire GHQ-12 employed for evaluation.

Results

The study collected quantitative data on various factors influencing the mental health of COVID-19 recovered patients, including demographics, presence of post-COVID symptoms, and mental health assessment using the GHQ-12 questionnaire. The research aimed to investigate the impact of these factors on mental health status. The study found that having post-COVID symptoms and being in the younger or older age groups were risk factors for poor mental health among the participants. The binary logistic regression analysis revealed these associations. The research identified potential target populations for timely psychological intervention to address potential mental health crises among COVID-19 recovered patients. As for whether the tested hypothesis was true, the study's findings supported the hypothesis that certain factors, such as post-COVID symptoms and age groups, could indeed influence the mental health outcomes of recovered COVID-19 patients. The results indicated a significant association between these factors and mental health status, confirming the hypothesis proposed in the study. It's important to note that while the study provided valuable insights into the mental health of COVID-19 recovered patients in Macau, the results may be influenced by limitations such as sample size and sampling methods. This study represents the first investigation in Macau on the impact of post-COVID symptoms on mental health, shedding light on the importance of addressing mental health issues in this population.

Conclusion

Conclusions: Post-COVID symptoms and age groups (both younger and older individuals) were identified as risk factors for poor mental health among recovered patients. The study highlighted the importance of timely psychological interventions for at-risk populations to address potential mental health crises. The research findings contribute to understanding the impact of post-COVID symptoms on mental health outcomes in recovered patients. Implications: Healthcare providers should be aware of the increased risk of poor mental health in patients with post-COVID symptoms and consider tailored interventions. Public health strategies should focus on providing mental health support and resources to COVID-19 recovered patients, especially those at higher risk. The study underscores the need for ongoing monitoring of mental health in recovered patients and the development of targeted interventions to improve outcomes. Future research could explore additional factors influencing mental health post-COVID recovery and evaluate the effectiveness of various psychological interventions.
